Every pilot’s journey starts differently.

For some, it’s a defining moment that sets everything in motion. For others, it’s a connection that builds over time, shaped by family, environment, or curiosity. No matter the path, the outcome is often the same: a lasting pull toward flight.

This World Pilots Day, we’re spotlighting two members of the Cirrus team whose experiences reflect both the individuality and shared spirit of aviation — Ivy McIver, Executive Director of the SR Product Line, and Travis Klumb, Director of Aircraft Flight Logistics.

Ivy McIver (Exec. Director of SR Product Line)

Travis Klumb (Director of Delivery and Flight Logistics)

The Spark That Starts It All

“I remember seeing Top Gun when I was little and thinking I wanted to be a fighter pilot,” Ivy says. “While the military path wasn’t ultimately mine, watching Maverick and Goose rip around in an F-14 sparked something that never left me.”

That early inspiration evolved. What started as fascination became a career centered around not only flying, but shaping the experience for others.

Ivy’s first discovery flight in Quonset Airport at 13 years old.

For Travis, the connection to aviation was quieter, but just as meaningful.

“Growing up on a farm in South Dakota, aviation wasn’t the path most of my friends took,” he explains. “But it was always in my family. Two of my great uncles flew—one in World War II, the other for TWA as a 747 navigator.”

Different beginnings, but the same gravitational pull. Aviation has a way of finding people, whether through a moment of awe or a legacy carried forward.

Travis’ first solo checkride in Mitchell, South Dakota in 1999.

What Makes Flight Meaningful

“Aviation touches the soul on so many levels,” Ivy shares.

“There’s satisfaction in a perfect landing. Joy in planning and executing a challenging flight. And exhilaration in exploring new places.”

“Being part of the SR Series team means I can turn those experiences into something others can feel too,” she continues. “That’s what I love most. Building an airplane that inspires people to go have adventures.”

It’s a perspective that reflects something larger than the aircraft itself. At its best, aviation expands what feels possible.

One of many occasions when Ivy put her bike in the back of the Cirrus and went on an adventure. This time in St. George, UT.

As Travis puts it, “Aviation makes the world smaller. You can cover a third of the country in just a few hours. The places you can go—even in a single weekend—are hard to imagine until you do it.”

Beginning the Journey

For those just beginning to explore aviation, the idea of becoming a pilot can feel like a big step. But both Ivy and Travis point to the same mindset: consistency over perfection.

“Keep showing up,” Ivy says. “It can feel intimidating at first, but there are people who want to see you succeed.”

The reward is something that stays with you.

“There’s nothing like lifting off the ground in an airplane you’re flying on your own,” she adds. “Seeing the world from that perspective is humbling. It’s worth it.”

Travis echoes that sentiment, but emphasizes the long-term nature of the journey.

“It’s an incredibly rewarding journey—but it is a journey,” he says. “If you have the passion and commitment, you won’t regret it.”

Aviation doesn’t ask for instant mastery. It rewards those who stay curious, stay disciplined and keep coming back.

A Community Unlike the Rest

Beyond the aircraft and flight training, one of the most defining aspects of aviation is the community.

“Flying is serious business.”

“Aviation is a tight-knit community of passionate people,” Travis says. “Not many groups go out of their way to spend time together like this—fly-in breakfasts say it all.”

It’s a shared language of experience. One that connects people across backgrounds, geographies, and stages of their journey.

Travis and Ivy crossing the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh Marathon line alongside their teammates

“Weather planning will always challenge me,” Ivy says. “It’s part science, part art.”

“Piecing together forecasts, tools and experience—and then executing a safe flight—is incredibly satisfying. A little nerdy, maybe. But that’s part of the fun.”

For Travis, that inspiration is rooted in what aviation unlocks.

“It’s the freedom,” he says. “The ability to go, explore, and experience more in a way that just isn’t possible otherwise.”

Travis lands on a glacier in a DeHaviland Beaver aircraft in Alaska

Keep Your Eyes on the Horizon

To Ivy and Travis, aviation is something you grow into.

Ivy gets seaplane rated in Seattle, WA

It’s a craft, a community and a perspective that continues to evolve with every flight.

And for those considering that first step, their message is simple:

“Keep showing up.”

Happy World Pilots Day!

The saying goes that everything’s bigger in Texas, and the endless traffic on I-35 is no exception. For most, gridlock means hours lost and meetings delayed. For David Toupin, a 30-year-old real estate investor and construction entrepreneur, that routine is a memory he looks down on from 17,500 feet, cruising in his Cirrus G7 SR22T. Learning to fly has redefined his approach to both business and daily life beyond his expectations.

man in front of his Cirrus SR Series G7

The Business Multiplier

Aviation wasn’t always part of Toupin’s plan. He discovered it in his mid-twenties after sitting copilot in a friend’s jet. He was hooked instantly. Today, with his Private Pilot certificate and his own Cirrus SR22T, flying has become a cornerstone of Stallion Paving and his growing real estate portfolio.

His Cirrus has effectively shrunk Texas into his backyard. Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and second-tier markets, once six-hour drives, are now quick flights. “What used to kill a day takes two hours,” he says. “Now I can meet a client, close a deal and be back in Austin before most people finish lunch.”

The shift is transformative. He hosts clients at FBOs for streamlined meetings, flies estimators directly to job sites and doubled the number of deals he can make in a week. His aircraft isn’t just a tool; it’s a business multiplier.

A Lifestyle Recentered Around Flight

Flying Cirrus is about more than just efficiency. What drew Toupin in was the brand’s philosophy of simplifying aviation. “The best thing Cirrus does is keep aviation simple,” he explains. Even as a relatively new pilot, he flies often and rarely encounters scenarios where he’s grounded. With the aircraft’s integrated avionics, real-time weather, traffic and terrain all at his fingertips, he feels safer and more confident at the flight deck.

Whether flying with clients, friends, or even his dog, first-time passengers quickly feel at ease. He credits the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System®, that by the time they land, they’re not just comfortable, they’re asking when the next trip is.

Redefining Success at 17,500 Feet

For David Toupin, his aircraft has become far more than a means of travel. It’s the bridge between business growth and personal freedom, a tool that unlocks markets, maximizes time and reshapes how he lives and works. What began as a spark of curiosity in a friend’s jet has evolved into a way of life, where meetings are measured in hours saved rather than miles driven.

Toupin sees the sky, not as a limit, but as a strategy. In his Cirrus, Texas feels smaller, his business feels bigger and the horizon looks brighter than ever.

For most people, a summer road trip means packing up the car and hitting the highway. For pilots Blake Freedland and Dylan Tamaroff, it meant something entirely different — charting a 12,767-mile flight plan across North America in a Cirrus SR22. Over the course of 74 days, the pair landed in 32 cities, crossed 19 states and four Canadian provinces and logged 100 flight hours along the way.

A Lifelong Dream

For Blake, aviation has always been more than a hobby. “I’ve loved planes and flying since my earliest memories,” he said. “I would dream of flying as a kid and always knew I would become a pilot.”

After years of persistence, Blake began flight lessons at 15. By 17, he had earned his Private Pilot License, followed by his Instrument Rating at 20. “I always wanted a challenge in the plane,” he explained. “I wanted to become a better pilot and see the entire country from above.”

Dylan’s path to aviation took shape later in life, but the pull was just as strong. “I always enjoyed being at airports when I was a kid, but it wasn’t until college that I met a private pilot who took me on my first discovery flight,” he said. “That one flight changed everything.”

Planning the Ultimate Journey

The idea for the trip started as a shared goal to test their skills, see the country and grow as pilots. “We spoke with everyone we could before taking off — our A&P, our CSIP, airline pilots and even a former F-16 instructor,” Dylan said. “They helped us prepare everything, from weather patterns to mountain terrain and airspace differences. We wanted to make sure we were ready for any situation.”

They mapped out their route carefully, taking into account runway length, fuel availability, airport elevation and nearby accommodations. Their circular journey began in Boston and wrapped up in Fort Lauderdale.

“Every flight taught us something new,” Blake said. “By the end, I was far more proficient in IFR flying and flight planning than ever.”

The Journey of a Lifetime

From the Atlantic to the Pacific, each leg of the trip revealed something unforgettable. The pair landed in Aspen surrounded by mountain peaks, went whale watching in Monterey and fished the salmon run in British Columbia.

“For me personally, seeing Mount Rushmore in person was incredible,” Dylan said. “And visiting national parks like Canyonlands and Arches — those were moments I’ll never forget. Seeing the West Coast for the first time was definitely a highlight.”

Their favorite memories weren’t limited to the skies. They toured FBOs, met fellow pilots and mechanics, and stayed with friends and family along the way. From fresh lobster in Nova Scotia to fireworks over the water, every day brought a new story.

Growing as Pilots

The trip offered constant opportunities to learn. “Flying around new terrain like the Rockies was intimidating at first,” Dylan admitted. “But as the days went on, I became more comfortable and learned how to anticipate what the wind and terrain would do. By the end, I was far more confident.”

It was also a test of endurance. “With the amount of flying we were doing, we had to stay disciplined about getting rest and managing fatigue,” Dylan said. “It really pushed us to practice strong crew resource management. Me and Blake’s CRM is pretty much down to a science now. There’s no other pilot I would have rather done this with.”

The Meaning of the Cirrus Life™

For both pilots, this journey was about embracing what the Cirrus Life™ stands for. “It means charting your own path,” Blake said. “Cirrus provides the tools and technology, and it’s up to us as pilots to make something amazing out of it.”

After covering thousands of miles, Blake came home with a renewed sense of gratitude and a goal to give back. “This trip made me realize how fortunate I am,” he said. “I want to inspire kids who dream of flying but might not have the opportunity. Aviation gave me so much and I want to share that joy with others.”

Table of Contents/Summary

  • A Flight Deck Designed to Work with the Pilot
  • Smarter Support When It Matters Most
  • Exterior Enhancements That Stand Out
  • Evolution, Refined

The Vision Jet has always been defined by a simple idea: Personal Aviation™ should be intelligent, intuitive and instill confidence. With the introduction of the new G3 Vision Jet, Cirrus continues to refine that philosophy, delivering meaningful enhancements to the flight deck and exterior that reduce workload, increase situational awareness and elevate every phase of flight.

The flight deck updates were designed to support pilots, whether that means simplifying preflight tasks, improving communication in busy airspace or enhancing visibility on the ramp and runway. The result is a jet that feels even more connected and capable.

A Flight Deck Designed to Work with the Pilot

At the heart of the G3 Vision Jet is an enhanced Perspective Touch+™ flight deck, engineered to streamline operations and help pilots stay ahead of the aircraft. New features focus on reducing friction during high-workload moments while maintaining the intuitive interface Vision Jet pilots expect.

One of the most powerful additions is ATC Datalink™. This capability allows pilots to communicate with air traffic control via text in the Perspective Touch+ flight deck to receive route changes, altitude adjustments and clearances directly to the avionics. By reducing reliance on voice communications over the radio alone, ATC Datalink streamlines workload in congested airspace and keeps pilots focused on flying the aircraft.

Preflight preparation is also simplified with Automatic Database Updates, enabled through the Cirrus IQ PRO Advanced™ subscription. Navigation data, charts and essential flight information are kept current automatically, eliminating manual updating and ensuring the aircraft is always ready to fly. It’s a subtle change that makes a meaningful difference, saving time and enhancing confidence before every departure.

Smarter Support When It Matters Most

In-flight awareness takes another step forward with Alerts-Linked Checklists. When a caution or warning alert occurs, the system provides quick access to the most relevant checklist, right when it’s needed. This intelligent pairing of alerts and procedures supports pilots during high-workload scenarios, helping them respond efficiently and decisively.

On the ground, Taxiway Routing and 3D SafeTaxi® enhance situational awareness in new or complex airport environments. Clear surface maps and routing guidance make navigating unfamiliar airports more intuitive, reducing the risk of runway incursions and easing transitions from landing to taxi. Whether arriving at a large international or regional airport, pilots benefit from a clearer picture of their surroundings.

Exterior Enhancements That Stand Out

The G3 Vision Jet’s refinements extend beyond the flight deck. New Cirrus Spectra™ wingtips and exterior lighting elevate both safety and ramp presence. Updated wingtip and landing lights are 2.7 times brighter, improving visibility during night operations and low-light conditions. The signature Cirrus halo light adds a distinctive visual identity, making the aircraft instantly recognizable while enhancing ramp safety and aesthetics.

Evolution, Refined

The G3 Vision Jet represents the next chapter in Cirrus’ approach to personal aviation. By focusing on pilot-centric technology and refined design details, Cirrus continues to raise the standard for what a single-engine personal jet is capable of.

Every enhancement from flight deck connectivity to exterior lighting serves a purpose: to make flying more intuitive, more efficient and more enjoyable.
